The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) will hold its first meeting of the Council Working Group on Child Online Protection, on March 17-18, 2010 in Geneva, Switzerland.

This Group is open to all ITU Member States and Sector Members. The meeting aims to exchange views on Child Online Protection and report to the 2010 Plenipotentiary Conference on the activities undertaken and achievement in this arena, including proposals for further consideration as appropriate.

Presentations on the ITU efforts regarding Child Online Protection and an Overview of requirements for child online protection will also take place the meeting.

At the ITU TELECOM WORLD 2009 last October, the Child Online Protection (COP) guidelines were officially launched. The (COP) guidelines are an important call for action to remind teachers, parents and educators of the risks that children face online, and while still encouraging them to embrace the benefits and opportunities that ICT provides, while remaining safe.
