A healthcare system that is consistently responsive, efficient, and capable of producing stellar outcomes: achieving this goal is essential to Qatar's national vision of political, social, and economic reform. By creating a truly integrated, world-class healthcare system, we can help ensure that people of all ages live longer, healthier lives.

The foundation of Qatar's revitalized healthcare system will be a sophisticated information and communication technology (ICT) program, e-health. Driven by the Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology - ictQATAR - in partnership with the National Health Authority and Hamad Medical Corporation, e-health will build the digital infrastructure necessary to enhance all aspects of health care: prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation.

Qatar has established 2010 as the target date for completing implementation of the e-health strategy. The e-health strategy has these imperatives:

  • Comprehensive. Users should be able to access a wide range of e-health services and products, from a general health information portal to remote monitoring of chronic conditions like high blood pressure.
  • Secure. Information must be kept intact and remain confidential.
  • Reliable. Information must be available on demand.
  • Compatible. Information can be easily exchanged among users locally and globally, regardless of the users' ICT infrastructure.
  • Fast. Even files requiring significant capacity should be able to travel between users in a short time.
