E-Learning Portal Contest for Government Employees

Through 12 June 2009, government employees in Qatar have the chance to win great prizes while advancing their careers. ictQATAR and the Institute of Administrative Development announced the e-learning portal contest, which allows government employees to enter a drawing for each online course completed. Prizes include a Nokia phone, 22"" LCD Monitor, an iPod, a Home Theater system and a portable DVD player.

The e-learning portal is a collaborative project of ictQATAR and IAD that gives government employees access to 4,000 online courses that address both professional and personal development. The online courses offer users an interactive learning experience. There are course offerings in 29 distinct categories, including computer skills, marketing, leadership, management, team building, project management, self development, stress management and business development, among many others. Courses can be taken in English, Arabic or French.

World Telecommunication and Information Society Day

ictQATAR will join the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and its other members in marking World Telecommunication and Information Society Day on 17 May 2009. The theme for the year is "Protecting children in cyberspace." World Telecommunication Day has been celebrated annually on 17 May since 1969, marking the founding of ITU and the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention in 1865.

ictQATAR's Q-CERT program is committed to working with the citizens of Qatar to address cyber security risks, protect sensitive information, and ensure the safety of our children on the Internet.

2009 HIMSS Middle East Conference

Dr. Yasir Khan, ictQATAR's Clincal Advisor for the e-health program will be delivering a keynote address at the 2009 HIMSS Middle East Conference in Bahrain, May 5-7 (http://www.himssme.org/09/). HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) is the premier professional member organization on optimal use of healthcare information technology.

Dr. Khan will discuss Qatar's national strategy for e-health. 

ICC Bahrain Telecom and Media Forum

The International Institute of Communications is holding one of its three annual Telecommunications and Media Forums in Bahrain May 5-6. The Forum will investigate how economic development, broadband infrastructure deployment and communications policy are linked. William Fagan. ictQATAR's Executive Director of the Regulatory Authority will participate in the panel titled ""What Contribution can Regulation and Public Policy Make Toward Achieving National Broadband Aspirations?""
