ictQATAR Recognizes Best in School Knowledge Net

The Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQATAR) in cooperation with the Supreme Education Council held an award ceremony on June 10, 2009 to honor the accomplishments of the second phase of the School Knowledge Net (K-net) project and give special recognition to project participants who demonstrated significant and unique achievements.

The ceremony, which was attended by the participating schools, high-level delegates from the Ministry of Education, and project stakeholders was held in the Diplomatic Club on June 10th.

The School Knowledge Net, a three-way educational portal connecting users with resources, is currently deployed in 37 schools in Qatar showing steady progress in adoption and recognition of the e-learning benefits it provides. " We've helped schools establish forward looking strategic vision and have been working directly with more than 180 teachers in Qatar to provide support with operational activities, including addressing technical issues, delivering workshops and holding individual sessions," said Slawomir Klos, e-Education Project Manager at ictQATAR.

ictQATAR presented awards in eight categories to individuals and schools demonstrating excellence in technology enhanced educational practices. "The extraordinary contributions of these individuals and schools showcase how to effectively integrate ICT into pedagogy with student centric learning and help build virtual communities of teachers, parents and students in Qatar," said ictQATAR's e-Education Manager, Dr. Ghadah Omar Al-Fakieh. The ceremony also revealed a new K-net logo that was chosen out of 20 entries submitted by 37 schools in Qatar.

The project is one of the pioneering projects that highlights the cooperation between ictQATAR and the Supreme Education Council. From only 8 participant schools in 2005, the project has grown ever since, to reach 37 schools in 2008. Plans are in place to include all independent schools in the State of Qatar by 2010 in the knowledge network which will mark the gateway to various upcoming educational projects in Qatar.
