Integrated e-Government

ICT is changing the way governments across the globe communicate and interact with their constituents. Qatar is capitalizing on these innovations by advancing the online delivery of government services and information to people living and working in Qatar.

A nation-wide effort is underway to make government work better for those who live and work in Qatar. In early 2007, ictQATAR established an Integrated Government Program known as i-Gov.

Rolled-out over the next four years i-Gov initiatives will:

  • Improve services to constituents: citizens and businesses benefit from government services that are more efficient and effective while accessing government information with ease .
  • Deliver internal efficiency: officials and staff realize performance benefits of streamlined processes and coordinated government-wide efforts.
  • Improve governance and transparency: citizens participate in decision-making processes and better understand the basic rights and freedoms.

Government agency cooperation and communication is key to developing i-Gov into a world-class initiative. With this in mind, the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has established the i-Gov Sponsor Group, which H.H. chairs, in order to ensure i-Gov has support from the highest levels of government.

The i-Gov Sponsor Group includes the Minister of Economy and Commerce, the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, the Minister of State for Interior Affairs, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture, and ictQATAR's Secretary General.

To encourage Government IT managers to commit to this ambitious program, ictQATAR hosts regular Government IT Forums to brief the public sector's IT community on the latest i-Gov developments and provide a formal platform for their input and feedback.
