Expanding MINDS and possibilities

Knowledge Net

Knowledge Net (KNET) is a three-way educational portal that connects students, parents, and teachers any time, day or night. Utilizing a unique Learning Management System, Knowledge NET provides teachers with instructional tools and resources; parents with instant access to teachers, coursework and upcoming tests; and students with the ability to communicate with peers and submit homework assignments. Knowledge Net improves content delivery, facilitates accessibility, enhances communication and expedites administrative tasks.

ictQatar rolled out Phase I of the KNET project to 12 schools in 2006/2007During Phase II, in 2008/2009, 25 additional schools gained the benefits of KNET. The goal of Phase III, slated for the academic year 2010/2011, is to roll out KNET to all Supreme Education Council and Ministry of Education schools (approximately 300 schools) in Qatar.

Benefits of Knowledge Net:
With a personalized single sign‐in and password protection, all members of the education community (teachers, students, administrators, and parents) obtain immediate, private access to information and communications applications, allowing three-way interactions. Specific benefits include:

Parents:
Parents can view their child's assignments and grades. They can discuss with other parents specific topics in an online discussion forum. Parents can also comment and provide feedback about school activities and events.

Teachers:
Teachers can access a homepage that displays all events, announcements, and teaching-related links. From the homepage, teachers can directly access their school's portal without having to log‐in again. They can view email and tasks from outlook web access and can view and download resources from a shared document library created by other teachers or other education experts.

From the school portal teachers can also create and manage learning resources. By creating an assignment on the assignments wizard, teachers can virtually distribute it to all students. In order to advance their own careers, they also can navigate to professional development courses to download course material.

Students:
From a student homepage, children can see tasks, announcements, and email. They can check class assignments, due dates, and the status of projects. Students can also collaborate from their own home with their peers. By logging into the Knowledge Net solution, students can see who is online and access a centralized planner with assignments, school events, and personal appointments.
