The Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQATAR), Dr. Hessa Al-Jaber, invited Microsoft's Chairman, Mr. Bill Gates, to visit Qatar and mobilize company resources to assist with the country's e-Health program.

During their meeting at the Government Leaders Forum Arabia in Abu Dhabi on February 3, 2008, Mr. Gates and Dr Al-Jaber discussed Microsoft's Connected Health Framework and how it is driving the development of health solutions worldwide.

Dr. Al-Jaber invited Mr. Gates to engage ictQATAR and its e-Health partners, the National Health Authority (NHA) and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), to work towards better integrated and secure information systems for the healthcare sector.

In a statement following the meeting Dr. Al Jaber said, "ictQATAR, NHA and HMC recognize that information and communication technologies help transform patient care by creating an environment where clinicians and patients can access medical information—easily and quickly."

Dr. Al-Jaber and Mr. Gates also briefly discussed ictQATAR and Microsoft's current collaboration on e-Education projects. Mr. Gates explained that education will remain a key focus area for Microsoft and highlighted ongoing investment in the company's Connected Education Framework.

Microsoft's Chairman used the meeting as an opportunity to reiterate the company's commitment to Qatar and its partnership with ictQATAR.

Microsoft representatives in Qatar said Mr. Gates intends to visit Doha soon to explore further opportunities of cooperation with ictQATAR and other government agencies.
