HMC employees
The ictQATAR and Health Information Systems Department at Hamad Medical Corporation, recently signed an agreement to train 500 employees from HMC's Emergency and Nursing departments on the International Computer Driving License Programme (ICDL), which is the leading e-literacy curriculum in the world.
The contract was signed as part of ictQATAR's National Computer Literacy Programme to support and develop e-literacy across the state of Qatar. The collaboration serves as part of HMC's ongoing transformation strategies to increase productivity and efficiency at point-of-care by preparing staff to excel in a new technology-based hospital environment.
"It is clearly evident that ICDL is quickly becoming recognised by various government and non-government authorities as the preferred programme for measuring end-user skills. This qualification provides assurance to employers that the hospital employee is competent in the use of the personal computer and common software applications, and understands the essential concepts of ICT," said Abdulla Al Emadi, Acting Executive Director of Health Information Systems at HMC. Literacy training, including training on key clinical applications, is handled through an in-house operation that serves all staff at HMC.
This is an ongoing activity that started in the year 2001, and is managed by the Health Information Systems Department.
At present, ICDL training is restricted to staff working under the Emergency and Nursing Departments identified as key areas for preparation towards upcoming hospital system implementation.
"So far, 80 employees have successfully passed the required seven exams and attained the ICDL certified status, said Omar Sweiss, ICDL Program Coordinator and Head of Training, at Hamad Health Information System's Department.
